A friend of ours took a speed reading course a few years ago. The trick, the instructor said, was to read the article or book or whatever several times, starting with a high-level review and drilling down to almost a word-for-word reading. All she remembers now is that she was supposed to draw a “Z” with her finger as she read.

We’re continuing our discussion of the recent Florida Supreme Court decision regarding workers’ compensation insurance. An employee was killed on the job, and his widow received a settlement under the employer’s workers’ comp insurance as well as a $9.5 million damage award in a wrongful death lawsuit. The employer’s insurance company refused to pay the damage award from the lawsuit.

A recent survey shows a very interesting split between men and women when it comes to insurance. The survey, conducted by Insure.com, tested 2,000 adults’ knowledge of insurance without digging into their actual coverage or claims experience. The respondents were asked if 10 statements based on common myths about insurance were true or false. For the most part, men were more gullible than women.
