Health care workers struggling to get insurance

According to reports, Florida’s health care workers are having trouble affording health insurance. The whole thing is somewhat ironic, as these people are within the industry.

The number of employers in Florida who offer health insurance is starting to decline. Furthermore, the cost of coverage that employees must contribute is rising. This is leaving many without a protection plan.

However, this is dangerous, as health insurance is extremely important for those in the health industry. After all, such workers are surrounded by sick people, contaminated needles and other risks.

As the state legislature debates the issue of Medicaid, local healthcare employees are asking for expansion. However, the issue is divisive. The House and Senate have taken varied approaches to expanding coverage for low-income Floridians.

Regardless, the issue is very real for some Florida residents. For example, there is the story of a woman who has worked nearly 20 years at Hillcrest Health and Rehabilitation Center. She had a health plan for her two children, ages 10 and 12, but now it is gone. Changes in her medical plan made coverage out of her reach. The woman notes that due to excessively high deductibles, most employees have dropped their health insurance at Hillcrest.

That is just one example of a person struggling to obtain affordable coverage. Many are searching for alternative options. However, with prices rising, it seems almost impossible.
